The SRJO's mission takes us far beyond just performing in concert. In addition to developing the region's finest large jazz ensemble, the SRJO works at:

  - Educating youth to appreciate and play this classic American art form. Jazz4Kids are free concerts for families and young musicians so they can hear how this music should sound. Jazz Scholars is our program of free music lessons for young students for whom this music can be the doorway to self-esteem and self-expression.

  - Promoting the music as a living art through commissioning new works, releasing CDs and working with fans, broadcasters, festival directors and promoters to present live music to audiences throughout the Northwest.

  - Preserving and enriching the music through transcribing from recordings to produce and publish transcribed scores. We intend to make these available to school and college bands throughout the world.

This all takes money, of course, and ticket sales pay less than half the SRJO bills. The SRJO is supported by government arts organizations, foundations and corporate donors, but individuals are at the core of what we are and do.

Become part of SRJO's supporting community today, and help us spread the love of jazz to the next generation of fans. Every member receives the heartfelt thanks of all of us at SRJO.
